How to turn a skybox into a unique meeting room, desired even on non-match days
The promotion of N.E.C. Nijmegen in the 2020 – 2021 season was a standout achievement. Climbing from 7th position in the First Division (Keuken Kampioen Divisie) and delivering an impressive play-off series, the team from Nijmegen rejoined the Premier League (Eredivisie) after four seasons. This success spurred NEC to enhance facilities both within and around the stadium. One notable project involved transforming the double skybox, where the club’s board entertains guests during matches, into a space befitting the Eredivisie standard. The design process involved bold choices, including positioning the central bar with its back to the field and extending it onto the outside balcony. Additionally, this skybox exemplifies the versatility that design can offer, as it is rented out multiple times a week for non-match events.
